Mental Health of Children and Young People
Over the course of 2020, young people have for the first time been forced to increase their screen time by the same adults who had previously tried vainly to limit it.
Recently Dr Alex George has been appointed Youth Mental Health Ambassador to advise the government and raise the profile of mental health education and wellbeing in schools. His clinical expertise and personal experience will play an important role in shaping children's mental health education and support.
The appointment has come at a time when an estimated five children in every classroom has a mental health problem. A quarter of 17-year-old girls have self-harmed in the last year, while suicide remains the single biggest killer of boys and young men in the UK.
COVID-19 has undoubtedly had an impact on our children. Rehearsed routines have had to be re-learned, home life altered and future ambitions compromised. With the added pressures of school life, social life and the ever-growing need to push the 'like' button, our children are being driven to unhealthy behaviours.
This webinar will bring together the leading mental health advisors, policymakers and experts by experience all perfectly positioned to offer help, support and guidance. We will also use the time to discuss how we can all contribute to empowering the youth of today to be leaders of the future.
